About

Equity Commitment

Alberta Main Street believes that by taking action to achieve equity in our organization, programs, projects and events, we will fulfill our mission to develop Alberta Street as an equitable commercial district.

To improve our success and fulfill our mission, we strive to understand and address the historical legacies of systemic racism and inequality.

Alberta Main Street is committed to understanding, challenging, and restructuring our internal policies and procedures to create a more equitable organization and to encourage and support stakeholders and community members in creating the conditions for broader change.

Alberta Main Street is committed to being both a leader and a catalyst in promoting equity and inclusion within the community.

As a Main Street America™ Accredited program, Alberta Main Street is recognized as a leading program among the national network of more than 1,200 neighborhoods and communities committed to creating high-quality places and building stronger communities through preservation-based economic development.

The Main Street Program is a national program that works to revitalize historic downtowns. The National Trust for Historic Preservation created the Main Street Program in 1977 in reaction to economic decline and threats to traditional architecture in core commercial districts.

Alberta Main Street is volunteer-driven. We are led by a Board of Directors and creative work teams:  Promotions, Business Development/Organization, and Design.

Promotions –  The Promotions team organizes great neighborhood events, supports ongoing social media promotions, tells the world about the great people, businesses, events and talent found “Only on Alberta.”

Business Development/Organization – The Business Development/Organization team connects businesses on Alberta and home-based businesses throughout NE Portland to small business resources, business planning and other forms of assistance. This team sponsors regular business workshops and business mentorship.

Design – The Design Team works to make visual improvements in the neighborhood business district through good design compatible with historic features.

Communities that have developed this approach in their own business districts on average have had a reinvestment rate of $40.35 for every one-dollar spent. For more information, you can visit the website of the National Main Street Program.
