10:30 AM – 12:30 PM Clean up Alberta Street
12:30 – 1:30 PM Celebration and Golden Garbage Awards
What you will be doing.
There are a variety of activities to work on. Priorities include: picking up trash and cigarette butts, clearing any blocked storm drains and removing stickers and graffiti.
What to bring.
If possible, please bring your own gloves, water bottle and any tools that will aid in clean up!
If you haven’t completed your volunteer liability waiver online, you can make check in go a little faster by bringing one with you tomorrow. You can download/print a waiver here. We will have waivers available onsite as well.
Where you will be working.
When you check in, you will be assigned a 5-6 block section of Alberta Street between MLK and NE 33rd Avenue. Feel free to let our registration volunteers know if you have a preference and they will do their best to accommodate. Larger groups may be asked to split up to make sure the whole street gets the attention it needs. After you check in and grab some nourishment, please head to your assigned location and check in with your Team Leaders.
Who will provide direction or answer questions.
Team Leaders will be wearing orange vests and lanyards (when you check-in you will be told where to find your team leaders). Your team leaders will have some tools available, provide direction about priorities and answer any questions. Your team leader will tell you where to leave filled garbage bags (please do not bring garbage back to the check in area). Additionally, they will have some basic first aid supplies if you need them.
Stay for the Celebration.
After the clean up at 12:30PM, please join us back at 18th & Alberta for pizza, Salt & Straw Ice Cream, treats from Random Order, the Golden Garbage Awards and lots of great raffle prizes from your favorite Alberta Street businesses. The celebration will end around 1:30PM.
Alberta Main Street would love to see your photos and videos! If you post, tweet or share photos, please tag them #albertastreet and # #SOLVEthistogether. We love seeing our volunteers in action!
Dealing with Difficult People.
While we hope this doesn’t happen, there may be a few people who disagree with our efforts to clean up Alberta Street. If anyone approaches you while removing posters, graffiti, or stickers during the clean up, please tell them that you are a volunteer and let them know they should speak to your team leader. Please do not argue or engage! You are doing great work on behalf of our community.
