The Neighborhood Prosperity Initiative (NPI) and Main Street Network VISTA Program is recruiting people committed to devoting a year of their lives to service. AmeriCorps VISTA members will serve from August 2016 – September 2017 at the following sites:
Alberta Main Street advances efforts to develop Alberta Street as a vibrant, creative, equitable and sustainable commercial district serving residents and visitors to our community. At the crossroads of four vibrant northeast Portland neighborhoods—King, Vernon, Concordia and Sabin—Alberta Street is a mixed-use commercial district with a locally owned, small-business focus. The mission of the Jade District is to create a multicultural business community celebrating the diversity of the district and make 82nd Avenue a destination center for tourists and residents. Our vision for the Jade District features safe, walkable areas rich with arts, entertainment, and many different cultural establishments serving food and drink. Our 42nd Avenue‘s mission is to: Create an inclusive place that meets people’s needs. Empower entrepreneurs and local businesses to better serve the community. Make the commercial district an attractive, friendly and safe place. Increase local employment opportunities through local hiring, use of local services and new entrepreneurship. The Rosewood Initiative Mission: We are building a safe, healthy, respectful, vibrant and inclusive community that brings prosperity to everyone in Rosewood. We are empowering community members to drive meaningful and positive change in partnership with agencies across Portland, Gresham and Multnomah County jurisdictions. Residents and businesses connect with one another to align resources and achieve shared goals. About the Network: The NPI and Main Street Network are place based community economic development programs. With grants, training, and support from the Portland Development Commission (PDC), each district is responsible for planning and implementing projects to improve the local commercial district.The NPI and Main Street Network is a key component of the City’s Neighborhood Economic Development Strategy (NED) – a citywide initiative to foster economic opportunity and neighborhood vitality throughout Portland neighborhoods, with a focus on low-income and communities of color.
