February 11, 2015, Alberta Street, Portland, OR – Nearly five years ago, almost 100 people with a stake in the Alberta Street business district gathered at the Alberta Rose Theatre to develop a community vision for Alberta Street. It is now time to determine what is working, what is not and what is next.

Honoring Our Past – Planning Our Future is an opportunity to gain historical perspective and to help identify priority projects, programs and events which may be implemented moving forward that further Alberta Main Street’s mission to advance efforts to develop Alberta Street as a vibrant, creative, equitable, and sustainable commercial district serving residents and visitors to our community.

Honoring Our Past will include a panel discussion with three Alberta Street pioneers: Roslyn Hill (developer and community activist), Pastor Robin Mayfield (commercial property owner) and Florence Fleskes (long time resident). Panelists will talk about their history and experience on Alberta Street as well as their vision for the future.

Alberta Main Street Visioning Session

Planning Our Future will seek community input with regard to what comes next for the nonprofit’s work within the district. Volunteer-driven committees and the Alberta Main Street Board of Directors plan and implement projects, programs and events that draw people to the district (promotion), create a functional and welcoming physical environment (design), support the economic vitality of the district (business development) and engage volunteers and raise funds needed to implement their goals (organization). In addition to the four points, Alberta Main Street’s equity committee works to ensure their efforts support and engage everyone within the district.

Alberta Main Street is a nonprofit organization engaging residents, business and commercial property owners, and anyone with a stake in the future of Alberta Street utilizing the Main Street Four-Point Approach®. The four points (design, promotion, business development and organization) work together to build a sustainable and inclusive commercial corridor.
